the buzz of a cicada

today is apparently the hottest july 28th the city has had in the past sixty years. despite the fact that i begged and pleaded for the cruel winter to be over, i can't wait for it's gradual return. combined with the humidity from the lake, the heat had me locked inside blasting ac with the curtains closed all weekend. as for today, my work day ends at 4, and by the time i left work, it was the peak of the day and i was stuck walking a respectable distance (in order to board the streetcar later down the line so i don't get caught by fare inspectors) in jeans. i got home by 6 to the sound of some very very loud cicadas are very, very. even sixteen stories up i can hear them.

i was biking two weeks so, and while going up a small hill, i caught the lip of where the concrete turns to gravel and my left hand slipped from the bar, leading me to fall awkwardly in front of a few people. so yup, you guessed it, at the grown age of twenty two, i have my first blue cast wrapped nicely around my left wrist. i don't care that i fell, but i care that i fell in front of others, and i especially care that the world has to know for another month. the smell isn't the best thing either, and paired with the fact that i'm living alone for another few weeks before my family members come back from vacation, i'm ready to rip this thing off myself.

i bought a new vacuum too. not one of those five hundred (and more) dyson ones, thankfully, but a 140$ cordless one recommended to me by on amazon. my purchasing has slowed down a lot these past few months as a result of my own conscious efforts to avoid the site, but sometimes there are things i cant get a hold of so easily and i subjectively need to dip my toes into the site.my work offers me a few hundred dollars of personal spending credits that i can use towards purchasing basically whatever i want. given my family has left me alone this summer with two cats who are shedding over our carpets and the new found sense of responsibility i have to keep my living quarters clean 24/7, i decided to get a new vacuum. this thing works great, and in the manner of fifteen minutes, i cleaned all the carpets in the house and with it, extracted two whole cans worth of dust, cat hair, my dad's clipped toenails (ew), you name it, it was sucked up. i love cleaning. for the first time ever, i feel like i am stepping onto the path of what will eventually constitute an adult's life.
