league of losers
people in my life tell me i have a problem. i have been playing league since its inception back in 2009. i remember visiting my brothers back when i was 6 years old for the summer. at the time, i was starting to really get into technology and seeing my brothers click frantically trying to clear waves of minions was something i could not go without trying. one thing led to another and they had me play a few games as tryndamere and i was hooked. the eastern european equivalent of a korean kid discovering starcraft.
if you dont know what league is; im happy for you and please leave this post now. if you really want to know what it is, league of legends, nicknamed league is a multiplayer battle arena game. the most popular game mode takes place on a map called summoner's rift, and hosts 5v5 matches where players control ingame characters called champions. every match ends when either one team surrenders or their central nexus is destroyed, located at opposite corners of the map.
each champion has a unique set of skills and passive abilities, some work well with eachother, some counter others, and some are just stupid. but overall, champions are pretty much designed to fulfill their role. some champions are good for one on one lanes, some are good as a pairing, and some prefer to spend most of the game wandering the map. in general, its a game based of skill based matchmaking, the game has no random elements, it all just about how you and your teammates play.
champion lore and world building go very deep too. its something you would not expect, but i think after 14 years of development, just playing isnt enough. i dont know enough about it to speak on it because frankly, i dont care for it, but ive watched a few videos.
from a overall perspective, league isnt a bad game at all. its objectively fun, but the community really sucks. after 14 years of playing the game ive realized that regardless of the people you ban, mute, or penalize for bad mental, people will still be people. i wont sit here and act like a purist either, ive told people mean things at times, ive told them to throw their computers down a sewer, ive told them they should shut the fuck up and play, the list goes on. subjectively, i am tame considering what ive seen and been at the receiving end of. the game is high stakes okay? i can understand getting frustrated, but there is a very small community of people that take a pixel game to seriously.
after 14 years (ill admit, on and off), ive seen it all. i remember the old health potions, i remember jax being able to dodge, i remember infinite true invisibility evelynn. ive never gotten higher than silver though. i never took ranked mode seriously, nor did i even consider it fun in the early days. i think nowadays the game has gotten better in terms of ranked queuing, but the whole idea of having my account being evaluated based on how well i play just leaves me with unnecessary anxiety when queuing in games.
anyways, you might be asking yourself (or not, it is what it is), 'aco, who do you mainly play?' and to that i present you with my three favorite champions, a small profile on them, and my favorite skin for them.
teemo
there exists a fair bit of prejudice against teemo to be fair. hes a very annoying champion and for a rightful reason. he is the sneaking tiger of league champions; working off poison and trap mechanics that makes him tough to deal with once he gets ahead. you can be walking around, walk into one of his traps, then loose a bunch of health even though hes on the other end of the map. hes very unfun to play against, but fun to play as. hes cute to me, and hes mechanically simple, so i dont need to devote much brainpower to him. my favorite skin for him is beemo, hes a little bee, its adorable. this skin alone justifies me playing him.
kayle
shes so cool. her whole lore concept is she is some angel blessed with the power of the sun. she fights with her emo sister. after her rework, she has become way for fun to play, and i love the visual updates she goes through as she levels up (she starts off as a knight, then gains wings, then becomes fully awakened). shes simple to play, mainly focusing on auto attacking enemies really quickly while building up momentum. she also has an invincibility skill thats a major savior as of recent. my favorite skin of hers would have to be aether skin. the concept is that she has been outfitted with some futuristic armor, as she levels up, she gains these futuristic metal parts that build onto her wings and armor.
caitlyn
this champion would objectively have to be my main. i own all of her 15 skins (when youve had a job since 16, you buy alot of unnecessary things). shes the it girl of her specific niche of champions called attack damage carries. her whole premise is that shes some techno sheriff that is also a sniper and her whole kit revolves around sniping, headhunting and laying trap and nets. shes probably the hardest to play out of my top 3 champions, but when played right, it is so beautiful. she starts of slow in the early game, but after the first 10 minutes the game play ramps up if your lane partner is decent. my favorite skin from her would have to be the battle academia one. this is a pricy skin but its just so elegant. the skin lore is that she is the president of the student council at this battling school. the animations for this skin are just so cool and it makes playing her feel so much different from her regular skin form.
anyways, thats all i have for tonight. hate it or love it, the game is quality made. its been part of my life longer than it hasent been, and quite frankly i dont play it enough for it to be a problem. tonights post is more lighthearted, which is nice for a change. ive been challenging myself to talk about tougher concepts and interesting quotes, but my home page says i play games so did you really expect for me to leave 14 years of my life out?
