every day carry
i am mildly obsessed with the niche communities surrounding what people carry with them every day. instagram reels about what people carry in their totes, the farings of /r/edc, whatever it is, i love this type of content. even in my own, real life, when people pull out things i wouldnt expect them to carry, im always left with a bit of shock. out of all the things someone could bring with them everyday, why would they choose this?
i think someones collection of things, nick-nacks, and stuff that they carry with them each day, important or not, can tell alot about their character.
some people like to be alarmingly ready, maybe too nihilistic about what wil happen in their day in some cases, call it chaotic neutral; im talking pocket knives, umbrellas, charging packs, flashlights, whatever. (side note: who needs all this shit?). on another side, we have people who leave the house with their wallet, phone... and thats it. these people like to just raw dog life, or maybe they can jsut buy whatever they need at the moment and thats it. i have some respect, but not alot, for these types. another group i always think about is people who are realistic about their edc. they don't do too much, they dont carry unnecessary stuff, rather they carry things related to hygeine, basic utility, maybe some cute stuff, and thats it. these people like to carry things they would realistically make their day nicer. these are my people, i love them, and i definitely respect this crowd the most
i dont leave the house without some sort of tote or backpack, so i afford myself a bit of leeway in terms of how much things i carry with me on a given day.
while writing this i arranged some stuff on the bed to have a little display of my personal and realistic edc. depending on the day or where i go, i add more things like books, school notepads, my laptop, etc. these are my must haves though when i leave the house for work (which has been most of my days as of recent). me personally, when i look at this image, i dont think i necessarily carry that much with me.
i have my basics, the wallet, the keys, my office keycard. these are things i pretty much require, my must haves if you will. these arent that special, my wallet is probably the most interesting part of these three as thats where my momo photocard lies (on the inside clear sleeve). i also carry a child and adult bus pass depending on the days when i shave my face and leave the house in casual clothes or i decide to dress nicer.
then i have my hygeinic products, my parfum and my deodorant. i used to carry face wipes but realized that just washing my face in public bathrooms is socially acceptable and cheaper. the deodorant i bought when i was in budapest from dm, then i fell in love with the brand, and have only used that specific deodorant since then. it smells clean and not overly "manly", it also leaves no marks, which is nice since ive been wearing black more and more recently. the parfum is givenchy gentleman. i really like the scent, its a bit of a fresh but ashy scent, and its not too sweet which is good, i find sweet parfums give me bad headaches.
onto my "productivity" items, my pencil case, my notebook, and my mp3 player. my pencil case and note book are a big should have for me, i make notes on what i want to write about and general notes about my day, it helps keep me in check. i like collecting stationary things, so muji is my go to for most of the pens and markers in my pencil case plus the notebooks i use. my mp3 player is a mixed bag, currently i have it loaded with nujabes and lauryn hill songs. i normally use it when im getting distracted by my phone and need to have some detachment from the nice but overly enticing spotify gui. before you ask, yes i use wired headphones. they have character that airpods dont. i have sony xm4s too, but i use them at home because they are a bit too bulky to carry around.
onto my aesthetic items, my sanrio cinnamonroll earring tin and my casio watch. the tin used to be for mints, i bought it when i bought the lesserafim album. i carry my earrings with me because my ears are pretty heavily pierced (3 lobes on each side, two conches, and a helix) and i like to change up my style spontaneously. the assortment is not too big, its most silver and black jewelry. i dont consider myself a necklace or bracelet person, so the natural decision is to get piercings. even though im not a bracelet person, ironically, as of last couple months, ive been wearing watches. i bought a really nice watch back in december for my birthday, but im averse to wearing it because the city is weird and i think id physically disintegrate if someone stole it or i lost it. so i wear a cheap casio instead. i actually have two of the same model, but the other one is with a friend right now getting modified. casios are cute, they give you what you need and dont leave you asking for more. i find that checking the time on my phone leads me to using my phone, so having a watch i can use to check the time is a good way to avoid unnecessarily using my phone.
bye! good night.
